 Dogs in Parks

 What is a paw park?

A paw park is a park for dogs. It is a facility set aside for dogs to exercise and play off-leash in a controlled environment under the supervision of their owners.

Paw parks vary in amenities, although a typical park offers separate fenced areas for small and large dogs, benches for humans, shade for hot days, parking, a drinking fountain or freshwater pond for dogs, and disposal bags and trash cans for animal waste.

       Guidelines

How to have a safe and pleasant experience with your dog:

      • All dogs at dog friendly parks must be kept on a hand-held, maximum 6-foot leash.
      • Under the physical control of a person at all times.
      • It is the responsibility of each dog owner to bring appropriate pet waste bags.
      • Pet waste must be picked up.
      • Dogs must be well-behaved at all times.
      • Dogs are not allowed in playgrounds, on beaches (with the exception of Brohard Beach Paw Park), fenced athletic fields or other designated play areas, off trails, in park buildings, or concession facilities.
      • Other non-dog friendly areas may also be identified within individual sites, and will be clearly marked.
      • Dogs may not be tied to trees, tables or shelter facilities, even when the owners are present.
      • Enforcement is enhanced with signage, public education and
        citizen patrols.

       What is a dog-friendly park?

A dog-friendly park is a place where dogs are welcome, but must be leashed at all times (maximum 6-foot-long leash) within designated areas. Please note that service dogs are allowed at all parks and beaches.
