Cigarette Litter Prevention Program
Cigarette butts are the world's largest environmental litter problem. Tons of them clog our stormwater drains and pollute our beaches and bays, and most come from cars on the road. In Sarasota County, cigarette butts are the single largest source of litter.
In spring 2017, Keep Sarasota County Beautiful was awarded a $5,000 Cigarette Litter Prevention Program grant from Keep America Beautiful. More than 35 ash receptacles have been installed throughout Siesta Key Public Beach and access points and Turtle Beach as a pilot program. Early results indicate the receptacles are helping fight the battle against cigarette litter.
Portable Pocket Ashtrays
Want to keep our roadways, beaches and waterways clean for current and future generations? Help curb cigarette butt litter by using portable pocket ashtrays. Portable pocket ashtrays promote awareness of this unsightly problem and help reduce cigarette butts on Sarasota streets, roads and beaches.
Complimentary portable pocket ashtrays are available to encourage proper disposal of cigarette litter. Submit your request online for your portable ashtrays or call 941-861-5000.
