The 14th Annual Sustainable Communities Workshop – "Growing Greener Generations" – brought together the community to discuss a variety of up-to-date sustainability topics presented by our expert speakers.
Building on the success of last year's workshop, the 2019 event drew more than 200 attendees to learn vital information from more than two-dozen panelists and speakers, including keynote speakers Josh Tickell, Chris Castro, and Syd Kitson (view the agenda and speaker bios).
Josh is an internationally recognized expert on sustainability and the climate, and author of multiple books on sustainability-related topics, including his latest work, “The Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World (Before It’s Too Late).” Learn more at joshtickell.com.
Chris is director of Orlando’s Office of Sustainability & Resilience, developing policies and programs to advance the city’s sustainability, clean energy, and climate action goals. Among his accomplishments, Chris helped develop Fleet Farming, a social enterprise that redefines local food systems by building organic farms on residential lawns.
And Syd Kitson is chairman and CEO of Kitson & Partners, which specializes in the creation and development of master-planned communities setting new standards for sustainable, responsible growth.
Residents, business leaders, institutions, government agencies and organizations gathered to learn from knowledgeable speakers and panel discussions. Discussion topics included:
- sustainable food systems,
- renewable energy,
- social equity,
- climate change,
- regional sustainability,
- youth activity/engagement,
- and more.
