The 12th Annual Sustainable Communities Workshop – "Building a Better Future, Together" – brought the community together Nov. 30 to discuss sustainable priorities. Our expert speakers provided up-to-date information on community strategies and resources, as well as best practice from other communities. View the latest agenda.
Residents, business leaders, institutions, government agencies, and organizations gathered to learn from knowledgeable speakers and panel discussions. Discussion topics included:
- Sustainable Living.
- Climate Change.
- Social Equity.
- Green Building.
This year's workshop featured interactive, breakout demonstration sessions, with hands-on activities and discussions for different sustainability topics. Breakout topics included:
- Transportation – Bikes and Electric Vehicles.
- Sustainable Purchasing Choices.
- Nature Tour.
Nathaniel Smith, founder and chief equity officer of the Partnership for Southern Equity, delivered one of two keynote addresses. Smith’s firm pushes for balanced growth and inclusive prosperity in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Randall Wells also delivered a keynote. As director of the Chicago Zoological Society’s Sarasota Dolphin Research Program, Wells has studied the effects of boating, fishing, and other human activities on the dolphin population.
