Project Background

Sarasota County’s 2026 Lemon Bay Watershed Management Plan identified flooding and water quality Level of Service deficiencies in the Lemon Bay Watershed. Based on these analyses, potential project concepts were developed to mitigate flooding and water quality issues. Specifically, the project:

• Assessed the level of service for both flooding and water quality.
• Developed a list of potential project concepts for the capital improvement program.
• Provided public outreach.
• Prepared a report documenting the results of the assessment.
• Adhered to Community Rating System Program and Comprehensive Plan requirements.
• Built on previous work.

Community Engagement

During development of the Update, a series of five Community Workshops were hosted between June–September 2025 for the public to learn about project goals, objectives, progress, and findings. Participants provided valuable input to the consultant team and engaged in productive feedback and discussion.
