Effective May 1, 2023, customers bringing yard waste in plastic bags to the landfill for disposal must empty the yard waste from the plastic bags and place the bags in a designated waste container at the landfill site. In addition to the tipping fee charge for yard waste, a minimum garbage fee of $15.00 will be charged for the disposal of the plastic bags. Leaf it Out! Click here for more information.

Advance Payment Accounts
For more than 20 years, Sarasota County Solid Waste has offered Advance Payment Accounts (APA) to our customers, providing a convenient way to pay for landfill fees.
As established by Resolution 2023-119, an Advanced Payment Account Customer (APA) is a customer that has an account with a prepaid amount of cash in it to pay for tipping fees and APA charges.
To establish an APA, customers will need to submit a completed APA application, the APA set-up fee and applicable $1,000.00 minimum payment. All payments can be paid by cashier’s check, money order, cash, credit card, online payment, or personal or business check.
Replenishment of money into an APA is limited to one credit card or online payment transaction per week. Replenishment by cash or check is unlimited and is applied to the account for immediate use.
All APA customers are required to have their vehicles weighed in and out each time they dispose of solid waste. The disposal fee will be charged at the prevailing rate established by the Sarasota County Commission. The APA must maintain sufficient funds at all times to pay for the entire disposal fee.
Use of the APA is only available via an APA account access card.
The following non-refundable fees apply to the APA and will not be pro-rated:
FEE | AMOUNT | DESCRIPTION |
APA account set-up fee | $150.00 | Includes APA account setup, first-year annual fee and up to five account access cards. |

Landfill Gas to Energy Program
The Landfill Gas to Energy Facility at the CCSWDC is a joint project between Sarasota County and a private company, Landfill Energy Systems Florida (Archaea Energy). The innovative technology demonstrates Sarasota County's commitment to clean energy and a sustainable future.
Methane, a greenhouse gas produced by the county's landfill, is converted into electricity that enters the power grid.
Three engines inside the building can produce as much as 4.8 megawatts of electricity, or enough to power 2,800 homes. The engines weigh about 20 tons each, have 20 cylinders and produce more than 2,200 horsepower apiece. Each engine uses about 500 cubic feet of landfill gas per minute.
