The Public Utilities planning staff coordinates the county’s long-range infrastructure plans with private individuals, developers and government agencies. The staff provides technical support for the county's water, wastewater, reclaimed water system and facilities. They respond to community needs and inquiries and work with utilities’ customer service to address community and system needs to deliver safe and reliable utility service.
They work with the Utility Engineering staff to address regulatory requirements, develop beneficial projects such as reducing water leaks, or extending utility service in unincorporated Sarasota County, and coordinate with the UF/IFAS Extension team on sustainability and water conservation initiatives.
Staff coordinates with utilities within Sarasota County as well as surrounding counties and municipalities, the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority, the Southwest Florida Water Management District and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
They manage the water, wastewater, and reclaimed supply master plans used to address the future demands and infrastructure improvements necessary to serve the current and future populations. The group assists the Utility Engineering division, and regularly interfaces with Planning and Development Services on comprehensive plan compliance, rezoning petitions, and community engagement on groundwater, water, wastewater and reclaimed water issues.
