The Property Management Division provides high quality cost-effective Government real estate services for County business. This team handles:

  • Real estate acquisition and disposition, including acquiring land and interests to land
  • Accommodating Capital and Non-Capital Improvement Program projects

Property is acquired in fee simple and easement interests through donation, purchase acquisition, and, if necessary, eminent domain.

This team also oversees:

  • Leasing of Sarasota County government property

Plat and Street Vacations

The Florida Statutes sets forth a procedure by which a County can terminate or vacate its interest in land which was obtained via plat, dedication or easement. We process petitions from citizens to vacate the County’s interest in plats, rights-of-way, and easements in accordance with the Florida Statutes.

We hold pre-applications meetings with citizens to discuss their desire to vacate certain County interest(s), we review the request to vacate petition, and its attachments, to ensure it is complete.  Additionally, we oversee the request to vacate process from start to finish, including making presentations to the Board of County Commissioners and obtaining the resolution that effectively vacates the County's interest.

If a petitioner's request is approved, a resolution is adopted and appropriate documents are recorded in the public records of Sarasota County.

Note: Effective November 7, 2018, Sarasota County may no longer vacate any road segments or rights of way abutting any beach, river, creek, canal, lake, bay, Gulf access or waterfront vista.

Surplus Lands

Real property that serves no future use for the county may be declared surplus and sold. Join our contact list to be notified about surplus properties.

Sarasota County Property Review

In May 2018, Sarasota County completed a review of all county-owned lands. As a function of that review, parcels were designated for retention or potential surplus.

Properties have been categorized as follows:

  • A: Properties to be retained
  • B: Properties ready for surplus
  • C: Properties with conditions that are potential for surplus
  • D: Properties that require further administrative review
  • E: Properties previously declared surplus

Properties Available for Sale

  • There are currently 16 vacant parcels of land for sale, being facilitated by Real Estate Asset Disposition Corp. All active property listings are available at (external).
  • There are currently 163 vacant residential lots for sale, located within the City of North Port. A complete list and property information is available via Smartsheet (external). All bids must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on October 14, 2019.

Note: all properties within the municipal limits of the City of North Port are subject to planning and zoning codes of that municipality. All questions regarding development of the parcels should be directed to the City of North Port.

Submitting a Bid

  1. Print and complete the required documentation associated with the parcel. A blank template is available in the Documents Library below (Surplus Lands folder).
  2. Mail or hand deliver the completed documentation to Sarasota County Real Estate by the deadline date posted for that parcel (no electronic delivery will be accepted).

Notes: Sarasota County staff may not discuss details concerning these properties during the offer period. All questions must be submitted using the Property Inquiry Form answers will be posted weekly.
