Sarasota County is located in the southwestern part of the Florida peninsula on the Gulf, between Manatee and Charlotte counties. Our economy is largely service-oriented, driven by tourism and the migration of retirees, with the major industries including:

- Retail trade
- Hospitality
The 2025 county population is estimated to be approximately 487,640 permanent residents. During the winter months, however, the local population can increase to over 570,000.

The first results from the 2020 Decennial Census are in! From 2010 to 2020...
- Sarasota County grew by over 54,500 new residents (an average of 15 new residents per day).
- The County's decennial growth rate of 14.4% is higher than the nation's (7.4%) and nearly the same as Florida's (14.6%).
- More than half of the County's growth occurred in the unincorporated area.
