The Friends of The Legacy Trail, Inc., (“FLT”) was created in 2006 as a Chapter within the Friends of Sarasota County Parks, Inc., a Florida non-profit corporation (“Friends of Parks”) organized to promote, enhance and maintain community support for Sarasota County parks and public recreational lands through activities, fund raising, and volunteer efforts.
Due to the success and growth of FLT, in July 2016, FLT branched out and formed its own non-profit corporation with a primary mission to support, promote, enhance and protect The Legacy Trail, now and for future generations.
Recent major accomplishments include the donation of a new trail user counter in May 2017, as well as $72,251 donated in towards a feasibility study for extending The Legacy Trail north 7.5 miles.
Members and volunteer friends of the Legacy Trail provide both organizational and direct service hours which benefit Sarasota County and the Legacy Trail in many different ways and at several locations. On an annual basis these amazing volunteers provide approximately 2000 individual hours directly performed along the Legacy Trail and several thousand community partner hours. FLT contributes their time and effort to several programs.
FLT contributes time and effort to several programs along The Legacy Trail including outreach and education, fundraising, participation in the annual Tour de Parks, partnership in the County’s Surrey Program, and trail maintenance and safety.
