2019 Sarasota County Schools Summer Reading Initiative

In a concentrated effort to stem the “Summer Slide” and entice students to read, Sarasota County Schools, in conjunction with Sarasota County Libraries, is promoting a list of titles to consider reading over the Summer of 2019.

To engage their interest and to provide a spur to critical thinking, the book selections may include those that involve sensitive issues.  The content of some titles may be more mature than younger students have previously encountered.

Please recognize that this is a voluntary reading program and we encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in the both the preview and selection of titles prior to reading.
