The burn ban was issued Oct. 11, 2025, and will automatically lift after the drought index falls below 500 for seven consecutive days.

Department Overview:
Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) is proud to be an internationally accredited agency.
Sarasota County’s fire service represents over 100 years of dedicated and heroic service by professional firefighters, paramedics and EMTs. SCFD is an all-hazards department that provides fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS) and special operations, which includes response to hazardous materials and technical rescue incidents. SCFD protects over 451 square miles of land and is surrounded by 37 miles of open shoreline along the Gulf. Sarasota County provides services to approximately 433,742 permanent residents (2020 Census). SCFD is dedicated to providing quality customer service and achieving its mission: Strengthening community through a network of skilled professionals dedicated to saving lives and protecting property.
The department is a participant in the Insurance Service Office’s (ISO) Protection Classification Program with a PPC classification of 2/2Y according to the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS).

Fire Safety Inspector/Fire Code Plans Examiner
These positions work within our Fire Prevention Division to perform code enforcement work and conduct life and fire safety inspections of commercial and multi-family occupancies to ensure compliance with adopted fire and life safety codes and standards.
Sarasota County Fire Stations
The Sarasota County Fire Department provides both fire suppression and emergency medical services to unincorporated Sarasota County and the City of Sarasota, and EMS-only to Laurel, Nokomis and Englewood.
The department provides fire suppression and EMS from 21 county-owned stations.
