The burn ban was lifted April 14, 2026. However, the community is encouraged to use extreme caution due to ongoing drought conditions.

Sarasota County Fire Department (SCFD) is proud to be an internationally accredited agency

Sarasota County’s fire service represents over 100 years of dedicated and heroic service by professional firefighters, paramedics and EMTs. SCFD is an all-hazards department that provides fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS) and special operations, which includes response to hazardous materials and technical rescue incidents. SCFD protects over 451 square miles of land and is surrounded by 37 miles of open shoreline along the Gulf. Sarasota County provides services to approximately 433,742 permanent residents (2020 Census). SCFD is dedicated to providing quality customer service and achieving its mission: Strengthening community through a network of skilled professionals dedicated to saving lives and protecting property. 

The department is a participant in the Insurance Service Office’s (ISO) Protection Classification Program with a PPC classification of 2/2Y according to the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS).

Save a Saturday for SCFD's Open House!

Join the Sarasota County Fire Department during our monthly free community events! Open Houses are held on the below listed Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Meet your local firefighters, receive free car seat safety inspections, bike helmet fittings, and lots of fire and swimming safety information.

The Sarasota County Fire Department provides both fire suppression and emergency medical services to unincorporated Sarasota County and the City of Sarasota, and EMS-only to Laurel, a portion of Nokomis and Englewood.
