Sarasota County has partnered with residents, businesses and organizations to develop housing policies that balance the economic, environmental and social needs of the community. The goal is a housing market that meets the needs of Sarasota County families and individuals across a wide spectrum of age and income.

Housing Affordability Situational Report

Sarasota County has designated housing affordability as a Board Priority. The initiative engaged the community in identifying gaps in the housing mix between supply and demand, specifically for non-subsidized workforce housing.

The final Situational Report on Housing Affordability (released in May 2017) incorporated community outreach and research on current conditions of workforce housing in Sarasota County.

The report includes:

  • 19 community-based recommendations in five themes
    • inventory
    • governance
    • economy
    • assistance
    • engagement
  • a prioritization of the recommendations
  • six activities targeting non-subsidized workforce housing activities and services
