Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) provides civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities like those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age and religion. The ADA guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services and telecommunications.
Title II ADA Non-Discrimination Statement
Sarasota County does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its activities, programs, and services.
Employment: Sarasota County does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with the ADA Title I employment regulations.
Effective Communication: Sarasota County will, upon request, provide auxiliary aids and services leading to effective communication for people with disabilities, including qualified sign language interpreters, assistive listening devices, documents in Braille, and other ways of making communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.
Modifications to Policies and Procedures: Sarasota County will make reasonable modifications to policies and procedures to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy and/or participate in activities, programs, and services. For example, people with service animals are welcomed in Sarasota County facilities, even where pets and other animals are typically prohibited.
Requests: To request an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures contact the County’s ADA coordinator, preferably no less than 10 days prior to the event or activity.

Sarasota County values diversity and welcomes input from all interested parties, regardless of cultural identity, background or income level. Moreover, the county believes that the best programs and services result from careful consideration of the needs of all of its communities and from when those communities are involved in the decision-making process. Thus, the county does not tolerate discrimination in any of its programs, services or activities.
Pursuant to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and other federal and state authorities, Sarasota County will not, either directly or through contractual means exclude from participation in, deny the benefits of, or subject to discrimination anyone on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion, income, or family status.
