Civics 101 is a classroom-style community engagement program designed to give residents an inside look at Sarasota County Government. This behind-the-scenes program connects you to the people and services that support our community.

What you’ll experience:

  • Engage with in-person presentations from county departments.
  • Tour county facilities.
  • Participate in interactive experiences.
  • Learn how tax dollars are spent.
  • Gain insight into how decisions are made and services are delivered.
  • Explore how departments operate, how tax dollars are spent and how county services impact daily life.

Through this program, you’ll feel more informed, engaged and empowered to stay connected and involved in your local government.

To participate, applicants must be Sarasota County residents* and must commit to attending the majority of the sessions.

* Permanent residents of Sarasota County and seasonal residents who will live in Sarasota County for the duration of the program.

Fall 2026 Class Schedule:

Sessions begin Sept. 3, 2026, and run through Nov. 19, 2026, every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
