Governing Legislation: Ordinance No. 2018-047 (Unified Development Code), Sarasota County Code Chapter 124, Section 124-27.

Purpose: The Planning Commission, as the LPA, is obligated to interpret and advise the County Commission on the adoption of and amendments to the Comprehensive Plan, as well as land use applications filed, pursuant to state statute or existing county ordinances.

Requirements: 9 members

Must be Sarasota County resident for at least 2 years.
1 additional non-voting member appointed by the School Board.
Required to file financial disclosure.

Term: 4 years

Meetings: Twice monthly - 1st and 3rd Thursday at 5 p.m.; special meetings as needed. Meetings can be viewed online here.

There is one vacant position with a four-year term ending 8/31/2029. Deadline for applying to this vacancy is December 24, 2025.
