 Solid Waste

Sarasota County collects, processes and disposes of different types of waste with a focus on recycling and sustainability. Our long-range goal is to reduce the amount and toxicity of waste going into the landfill as we ensure sustainable lands and habitat. We emphasize waste education through citizen involvement and focus on increasing customer satisfaction. Stewardship of resources and controlling operating costs are key priorities.
The Sarasota County Solid Waste program is responsible for providing the citizens in the unincorporated portions of Sarasota County with solid waste collection and disposal services. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, convenient, safe and reliable collection and disposal/diversion services resulting in the protection and conservation of our natural resources.

 Storm Debris (ROW Agreements)

Sarasota County is seeking the public’s help to collect “hold harmless” and right-of-way agreements from owners of private roadways, for hurricane season.

  • Debris cleanup on private roads after a natural disaster is at the discretion of county commissioners, but having signed indemnity agreements on file will allow cleanup to begin sooner for the areas impacted.
  • Some of those roads lie in older areas where homeowners associations may have lapsed years ago.
    • In those cases, residents will need to contact the county individually, so they can sign the agreements.
  • The forms will be required if the county removes debris from these areas and then seeks financial reimbursement from FEMA.

If your road or homeowners association is not listed, contact the Sarasota County Call Center at 941-861-5000 and ask for Solid Waste customer service.
