Mission Statement
To improve the quality of life and promote the health and safety of our citizens by providing a capital improvement projects program and a multi-modal transportation system that are efficient, effective, and safe and that strengthen and enhance our neighborhoods.

Overview
The Sarasota County Public Works Business Unit includes both the Mobility and Capital Projects core services. Mobility Operations plans, maintains, and operates the County’s multi-modal transportation systems for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

The assets managed by Mobility include 137 bridges, 2,328 lane miles of roads, more than 38,000 road signs, 237 signalized intersections, and 5,050 street lights. Capital Projects manages the county’s approximately 1 billion dollar capital projects program – overseeing projects from design through construction completion in the areas of Utilities, Environmental Services, Facilities, and Mobility.

Within the billion dollar program, approximately $214 million is budgeted as new capital funding over the next five years. At any given time, on average, the team is actively working on 140 capital projects with the overall goal of delivering projects on schedule and on budget.
