 Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trail Paths

One goal of Sarasota County is to develop and maintain a safe, convenient and efficient transportation system, which provides for an affordable balance of alternative transportation modes and safe, efficient intermodal transportation linkages; and respects the integrity of environmentally sensitive areas and wildlife habitat.
To accomplish this goal, the county must take a multimodal approach when planning the transportation systems serving the county. Planning for this is discussed in the Transit Development Plan, the Sarasota Master Trail Plan, and in the recently adopted Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.

 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan was adopted by the Sarasota County Commission on October 8, 2013.  The plan provides for the vision and needs for supporting bicycle and pedestrian improvements, as well as maps of the current facilities and maps of future focus areas.  The plan was developed in collaboration from community input and crash data collected from 2007-2013.

 Master Trail Plan

In fall 2006, the Sarasota Master Trail Plan was adopted to provide for both recreational and alternative transportation. This plan serves as a framework for implementing a comprehensive trail system for use by the residents and visitors of Sarasota County.
