 Pinelands Reserve

Access to the Pinelands Reserve is currently limited to the paved road that encircles the landfill footprint.

  • A radio control aircraft field is on-site, for more information visit R/C Fliers of Venice.

Due to long term mitigation and construction projects, access to the surrounding land is not permitted without requesting private, guided group walks.

Required: All visitors to the reserve must check (Monday through Saturday) at the administration building, located on the right side of the landfill complex.

Upon check-in, visitors receive a bird/wildlife list and a map of the site. 

​Note: Due to regular site maintenance, construction and enhancements public recreation access is often interrupted for extended periods of time. Call ahead before visiting the site to find out about closures or restrictions.
*Schedule guided group walks to the site with county staff, call 861-5000.​


Hours:  Monday through Saturday
8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The reserve is closed on Sundays, New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

 A Little History

Purchased in 1985, this 6,151-acre reserve provides buffers for surrounding lands. The buy allowed for the construction of the Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex, provided suitable areas for mitigation, and to protection of the native habitats.
