SARASOTA COUNTY — North Sarasota County residents looking to dispose of unwanted household items and yard waste can take part in an upcoming free community cleanup event.

Join Sarasota County and drop off your items from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 18 at Longwood Park, where dumpsters for residential customers will be available at 6050 Longwood Run Blvd., Sarasota.

Small vehicle tires (limit of four tires per household), yard waste, tree trimmings, appliances, and discarded household items will be accepted.

Hazardous materials and electronics will not be accepted, including refrigerators containing refrigerant (Freon), computers, paint, oil and gasoline.

At the May cleanup in Englewood, residents disposed of 4.69 tons (more than 9,300 pounds) of unwanted household items and yard waste, highlighting the continued success of Sarasota County’s community cleanup events.

Hazardous materials and electronics may be taken year-round to the following locations:

• Chemical Collection Center (North), 8750 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota (8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday)

• Chemical Collection Center (South), 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice (8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday)

• Citizens’ Convenience Center at the Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex, 4000 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.).
