Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners set strategic priorities for 2026, select board officers

The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners identified their strategic priorities to set the roadmap for goals, projects, and initiatives in 2026, during the annual planning retreat on Friday, Dec. 12.

The board's discussion on 2026 priorities focused on:

  • Budget 2028 - critical services and current budget.
  • Current and future transportation management on county roads.
  • Legacy regional Stormwater facilities. 
  • Siesta Key beautification, funding and maintenance.

The board will continue to focus on crucial agenda topics including affordable housing, transportation and stormwater initiatives. The board will finalize its strategic priorities during the Jan. 13, 2026 commission meeting. The Sarasota County Board of County Commission webpage can be viewed for additional information.

During the retreat, Ron Cutsinger, District 5 Commissioner, was chosen as the next Chair, and Commissioner Mark Smith, District 2, was selected as Vice Chair. Commissioner Teresa Mast, District 1, was chosen Pro Tem. They’ll serve in these positions for the 2026 calendar year.

The Chair presides at commission meetings and represents the board during ceremonial functions, and the vice chair assumes duties when they are unavailable.
