Most Sarasota County offices to close for Thanksgiving holiday

SARASOTA COUNTY - Most Sarasota County Government offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Additional information is below.

Breeze Transit Schedule:

Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27)

  • Transit administration and ticket outlets will be closed.
  • Breeze routes (with the exception of the 77 Siesta Islander) and Breeze Plus will be closed.
  • The 77 Siesta Islander and Breeze OnDemand will operate modified hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 28)

  • Transit administration and ticket offices will be closed.
  • All Breeze services will operate regular hours.

 

Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources:

  • All recreation facilities will be closed.
  • Knight Trail Park hours will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Thursday, Nov. 27. Knight Trail Park will reopen Friday, Nov. 27 and remain open through the weekend at normal operating hours.

 

Solid Waste: 

All solid waste facilities and administration offices, including the Central County Landfill, the Citizens’ Convenience Center and the Chemical Collection Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27.  

The Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center, administrative office and The Re-Uz-It Shop at 8750 Bee Ridge Road and the Central County Landfill administrative office at 4000 Knights Trail Road will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 28. 

The Central County Landfill will remain open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29. 

Garbage, recycling and yard waste collection schedule

Curbside collection will run as follows: 

  • Monday, Nov. 24 - Wednesday, Nov. 26: Collection services as normal.
  • Thursday, Nov. 27: No collection. Since the holiday falls on Thursday, trash, recycling and yard waste will be collected one day later than the regularly scheduled pickup day for the rest of the week. 
  • Friday, Nov. 28: Collection for Thursday customers. 
  • Saturday, Nov. 29: Collection for Friday customers. The Central County Landfill will remain open until 5 p.m.                                 

Because collection times vary, residents should place materials at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of pickup.

 

Closed on Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28:

  • Libraries and Historical Resources locations.
  • Sarasota County UF/IFAS Extension and Sustainability.
  • Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller. Services can be accessed online at www.SarasotaClerk.com.
  • Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office.

 

Closed on Wednesday, Nov. 26, Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28:

  • All Sarasota County Tax Collector locations.
  • Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County. This office will also be closed Wednesday, Nov. 26.
  • Sarasota County Property Appraiser. Services can be accessed at www.sc-pa.com.
