Community invited to learn about Blackburn Point Bridge Project Development and Environment Study

SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County invites the community to learn about and provide feedback on the Blackburn Point Bridge Project Development and Environment (PD&E) study on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

The Blackburn Point Bridge in Osprey is undergoing a study using Florida Department of Transportation guidelines to determine a reasonable and feasible alternative for the bridge replacement. The replacement is being evaluated due to deficiencies and the possible incorporation of bicycle and pedestrian traffic in addition to marine and vehicle traffic in the design. The study evaluates impacts on air and water quality, wildlife, wetlands, and other natural resources as well as potential impacts to the surrounding communities including costs and potential economic benefits.

County staff and the study team will be available to answer questions and discuss the project from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19,t the Church of the Holy Spirit, 129 Tamiami Trail, Osprey. A presentation sharing the preliminary design plan options will begin at 5:15 p.m.
