SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County invites volunteers to celebrate National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Sept. 28. For over three decades, NPLD has inspired thousands of volunteers to give back to the nation's public lands in all 50 states and U.S. territories. This September, communities across the country will unite to celebrate and care for public lands – for current and future generations.
The theme for NPLD 2024 is “Together for Tomorrow.”
Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate and partner with Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) staff in various activities, including litter pick-up, nuisance plant removal, native vegetation planting and mulching at Phillippi Estate Park.
“Our volunteers devote countless hours in supporting our park systems. Their dedication helps preserve the county's parks and natural areas and keeps these spaces healthy and beautiful for future generations to enjoy,” said Director of PRNR, Nicole Rissler.
Registration for the event is mandatory, and volunteers are encouraged to bring hand pruners, work gloves, hats, sunglasses, a refillable water bottle, bug spray and sunscreen. Additionally, closed-toe and closed-heel shoes, such as hiking boots or sneakers, should be worn.
