UPDATE, 8 p.m.: DO NOT PLACE WASTE FOR COLLECTION OUTSIDE for the duration of the storm. WAIT until the storm has passed to place waste outside. In the event of high winds, containers, yard waste and bulk items can create airborne hazards.

All solid waste collection services will resume on Wednesday, Aug. 30, for residents of unincorporated Sarasota County. As winds are anticipated to subside in the early morning hours, residents with regularly scheduled Tuesday collection services should place materials at the curb between 7 and 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30. Waste Management will be resuming collection operations at 8 a.m.

Collection services for garbage, recycling and yard waste for the remainder of the week will be delayed by at least one day.

Bulk collections are anticipated to resume on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The Central County Landfill and Citizens' Convenience Center are anticipated to resume regular business hours on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Bee Ridge Chemical Collection Center will be closed Wednesday, Aug. 30.

ORIGINAL, 5 p.m.  SARASOTA COUNTY - Sarasota County Government continues to monitor the impacts of Hurricane Idalia and is working to support the Emergency Operations Center and the community. 

Out of an abundance of caution, Sarasota County called for the evacuation of Level A in response to potential impacts which include barrier islands, mobile homes, and those living on vessels. 

In anticipation of impacts from Hurricane Idalia, Sarasota County Utilities shut off water service to residents and businesses located on Casey Key. 

County utilities customers will not have water for use until after the storm. Residents and businesses are encouraged to please plan accordingly.

Sarasota County Public Works staff locked down local moveable bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway. 

Sarasota County bridges affected are at Manasota Beach Road, Venice Avenue, Albee Road and Blackburn Point Road. 

The Florida Department of Transportation also locked its bridges within Sarasota County at the Circus Bridge (South U.S. 41 on the Island of Venice), Hatchett Creek Bridge (North U.S. 41 on the Island of Venice), Stickney Point Road, Siesta Drive and New Pass. 

All of these bridges are closed to marine traffic and open to vehicular traffic.

Sarasota County is expecting 5 feet of storm surge, the highest around high tide Wednesday.

• Sarasota County schools will be closed Wednesday, Aug. 30. 
• General population evacuation centers are open. To see a full list, visit scgov.net/beprepared. Those needing transportation to a rally point or evacuation center may call 311. 
• All solid waste collection services scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 29, have been cancelled for residents of unincorporated Sarasota County. Collection services for garbage, recycling and yard waste for the remainder of the week will be delayed by at least one day. Conditions will be assessed after the storm passes to determine when services will resume. Updates on service will be posted to scgov.net and Sarasota County Government social media. The Central County Landfill and all Solid Waste facilities are closed on Tuesday, Aug. 29. 
• Breeze bus services have paused operations. 
• All Sarasota County Government offices are closed through Wednesday, Aug. 30. 
• The regular Sarasota County Commission meetings for Aug. 29, and Aug. 30, will be rescheduled.
• Reservations for county facilities are cancelled through Wednesday, Aug. 30.
• Sarasota County libraries are closed through Wednesday, Aug. 30.
• Sarasota County 311 is open until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29 and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30. 
• Sandbag operations have concluded. 
• Sarasota County Fire Department will reschedule the series of informational meetings about proposed changes to the fire assessment rates.
