SARASOTA COUNTY - July is Parks & Recreation Month. This year’s National Recreation and Parks Association theme celebrates the vital role park and recreation professionals play in bringing people together, providing essential services and fostering the growth of communities.
Celebrate Parks and Recreation month with Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR) staff at one of many events happening during the month of July, including:
- July 6, 9 a.m., Demonstration Garden tour at Shamrock Park, 3900 Shamrock Dr., Venice.
- July 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., F.I.S.H. dip netting program at Lemon Bay Park, 570 Bay Park Blvd., Englewood, registration required.
- July 15, from 1 to 3 p.m., T-REC Forever Friends Day at Bee Ridge Park, , 4430 S. Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota.
- July 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Christmas in July Arts & Crafts Show at Venice Community Center, 326 Nokomis Ave. S., Venice.
From neighborhood parks and large preserves to beaches and world-class athletic facilities, Sarasota County is dedicated to providing safe, accessible and diverse recreational opportunities and amenities for all ages.
“We hope that you will take the time this summer and throughout the month of July to enjoy all that Sarasota County Parks have to offer,” said Nicole Rissler, director of Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources.
During this Parks and Recreation month, explore more than 55,000 acres of public park land, 444 miles of multiuse recreational trails, 35 miles of beach, 110 athletic fields, 45 playgrounds and 150 parks.
When visiting Sarasota County parks, beaches or natural areas remember to pack-in-pack-out and take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints.
