County announces neighborhood 'share shops'

Sarasota County announces next round of neighborhood 'share shops'

Post Date:10/05/2017 10:30 AM

SARASOTA COUNTY - Earlier this year, Sarasota County Neighborhood Services piloted "share-shops," a unique form of workshop in which residents are included on a panel of subject matter experts.

Each share-shop highlights a neighborhood project that has been completed through the county's Neighborhood Initiative Grant Program. In addition to grant recipients, the panel also includes a county staff subject matter expert and a member of the Neighborhood Initiative Grant Advisory Committee.

"These share-shops provide great insight on how to successfully apply for and implement one of our neighborhood grants. But, at their core, they are stories of neighborhood residents joining one another to work toward and achieve a goal. We think those stories are worth sharing," said Sarasota County Neighborhood Services Manager Jane Grogg.

The next share-shop will be take place 4-5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, at the Gulf Gate Library. Residents from the Gulf Gate Manor neighborhood will discuss their process for replacing four entry signs along Gateway Avenue. Sarasota County Zoning Administrator Donna Thompson will provide insight on entry sign regulations and processes, while a neighborhood panel member will contribute perspective on how this project demonstrated the scoring portion of the grant application process. Questions will be taken from the audience at the end of the presentation.

A follow-up share-shop, focused on a pond restoration project in Talon Bay, is planned for 4-5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 16, at the North Port Library.

Any neighborhood leader or resident is encouraged to attend. If you would like to be notified of future share-shop dates, contact neighbor@scgov.net.
