Global Organic Specialty Source, Inc.

Global Organic Specialty Source is in its 14th year of business. We view Global Organic Specialty Source as the bridge between the farmer and the consumer. Our mission is to make quality organic produce fruits and vegetables available to as many people as possible. We work toward that goal by encouraging the growth of Organic Farms, Retailers and Co-op groups throughout the Southeastern United States. Our brand, Noah's Organic Garden, is designed to bring premium, hand-selected organic produce into hundreds of new retail outlets.

Global Organic Specialty Source's environmental commitment includes resource, energy, and water conservation in addition to providing a non-toxic work and production environment. They are committed to producing zero food waste. To accomplish this, food not routed to consumers is given to employees at no cost with excess donated to Manatee County Food Bank and Sarasota's All Faith's Food Bank. Remaining items are taken to the owner's farm and used as compost in his organic operation.

Energy consumption is carefully monitored. Each cooler room is regulated in relation to stored product. Curtains are used between doorways to maintain temperatures. Temperatures are logged daily so any potential change in the system would be addressed within a maximum of 24 hours. Forklifts are battery charged for moving inventory. Lighting is currently being upgraded to lower energy consumption lighting. The office space was designed to maximize the use of natural light and has cooling shades that can be drawn to reduce interior heat. Interior offices and restrooms have motion activated lighting systems.

Water reduction measures include installing low flow toilets and low flow faucet aerators. A tankless hot water heater was installed for hand washing.

Further environmental commitment includes; using mostly compostable palm fiber trays for packing produce, using non-toxic cleaning products, maintaining abundant indoor plants to provide additional oxygen, maintaining a no spray zone around the building, and maintaining a small drought resistant native plant garden at the entry. Trees were planted to eventually create cooling shade at the entry point.

Recycling efforts include eliminating lined trash cans, recycling toner and printer cartridges, reducing printed materials through software program upgrades and communicating to customers electronically.

Global Organic Specialty Source encourages their 100+ employees to reduce waste and support a greener lifestyle. Special parking is even allotted for hybrid vehicles and bicycles.
