Historical Resources collects information and artifacts related to the history of the county from pre-historic times to the present. These collections are stored in the center's archives, where they are made available for public research.

The Historical Resources Library is a comprehensive research center that contains:
  • Non-circulating collection
  • Volumes on archaeology, architectural history archives management, and historic preservation.
  • Publications written by local authors.

The center is closed during Sarasota County Government observed holidays. No appointment is required to view original papers, vintage photographs, newspaper clippings, aerials, city directories, obituaries, maps, architectural drawings, or ephemera.

 MacKinlay Kantor Room


The MacKinlay Kantor Room exhibit is also at the Porter Way address, contains books and objects from the library of this long time Sarasota resident and Pulitzer Prize-winning author (1904-1977).
