The Office of Financial Management provides financial and resource management services in three key areas:
- Budget and Support Services
- Billing, Collections and Capital Assets
Each of these groups has aligned their objectives to support the strategic goals of the county.
For the 26th consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has awarded the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to Sarasota County for its budget. In Fiscal Year 2016, the County also received the GFOA’s Special Capital Recognition Award for the first time.
The award represents a significant achievement by the Office of Financial Management. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. To receive the budget award, the office had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as:
- A policy document
- A financial plan
- An operations guide
- A communications device
Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
