 STEP 5 - Access Incentives

Some home energy improvements will only require your time. Others may require a financial investment.

If you decide to spend money on home energy efficiency improvements, be sure they are cost-effective. In other words, they will pay for themselves over time in lower energy bills. Local, State, Federal and utility rebates and incentives may be available to help pay for some home energy improvements. Before you begin your project, check into sources for rebates, incentives and tax credits.

The Office of Housing and Community Development currently offers an owner occupied rehabilitation program for low-income residents within Sarasota County, the city of Sarasota and the city of North Port. The rehabilitation program is an ideal way to improve the energy efficiency of your home for long-term energy savings. While not limited to only energy improvements, OHCD can work with Sarasota residents and their selected contractors to ensure that rehabilitated homes include ENERGY STAR® windows and vent and ceiling fans, use recycled and efficient insulation, and that all toilets, showerheads and bathroom faucets will minimize water usage. All of these retrofits can lead to significantly reduced energy and natural resource use within homes. For more information, call OHCD at 941-951-3640 or visit:
