Jonathan E. Evans, MPA, MBA, ICMA-CM, became Assistant County Administrator in August 2016.
He oversees the Community Development/Infrastructure departments: Planning and Development Services, Public Utilities, Public Works, Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) and Economic Development.
Evans holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Central Florida, as well as a master’s degree in business administration with a human resources concentration from Saint Leo University.
Evans has worked for several Florida communities, including the city of St. Cloud, the Town of Celebration, the city of Largo and most recently Haines City, where he served as assistant city manager before becoming acting city manager and finally city manager.
Evans is a full member of the Florida City/County Manager’s Association (FCCMA); he has served on numerous boards for the professional organization and served as an at-large director on the FCCMA Board of Directors from 2014-16. He is also a member of the International City/County Managers Association (ICMA) and is a credentialed manager, a distinction held by about 1,300 local government professionals worldwide.
Evans has served on the University of Central Florida Public Administration Advisory Board for the School of Public Administration (SPA). He is also an adjunct professor at Polk State College and is a Business Advisory Board member at the school.
Evans is a native of Port Chester, N.Y., and a first-generation U.S. citizen. His father was born in Manchester, Jamaica, and his mother was born in Bocas Del Toro, Panama.
