Benefit Options
Employees have two medical
plans for calendar year 2010 - the
Aetna Health
Fund (AHF) and the
Choice POS II
medical plan. The
following tools can help you decide which plan is best for you and your
family.

Dental Plans

Vision Plans

Life Insurance

Term life
insurance worth the employee's salary is county paid. Up to double
the employee's salary is available through Sun Life of Canada. Sun
Life also offers dependent life insurance.
Note: any
increase in coverage requires an
Evidence of Insurability form.

Universal Life
insurance is available through Colonial Life. This option
includes various coverage amounts and dependent coverage. Universal life insurance requires an
application.

Short Term Disability
Disability benefit available to employees of the Sarasota County
Commission (including Teamsters), Clerk of the
Circuit Court, Property Appraiser and Supervisor of
Elections. Provides income protection for employees out of work due to
an extended illness or injury.

Long-Term Disability (LTD)
LTD is offered through Sun Life of Canada. Sarasota County pays for a 40 percent
benefit for employees (60 percent for "At-Will" employees.)
Non-At-will employees may increase their LTD
coverage by 20 percent for a total benefit of 60 percent.

Flexible Spending Accounts
Sarasota County offers both Medical and Dependent Care Flexible Spending
Accounts (FSA). These accounts allow employees to save money by placing
pre-tax contributions into accounts for medical and dependent care
expenses. Note: the medical spending account can be used for medical
expenses for you, your spouse and children. The Dependent Care Flex
Account is for day care expenses only. The FSA program is administered
by Aetna.
Sarasota County contributes 25 percent to participants' Dependent Care
FSA to assist with childcare expenses, subject to the $5,000 annual
maximum contribution established by the IRS. For example, if an employee
elects to contribute an annual amount of $4,000, the county will
contribute $1,000, for a total annual amount of $5,000. Sarasota County
also contributes 5 percent toward the Medical FSA, subject to the same
annual maximum above.

Cancer and Specified Disease Insurance
Plans
Sarasota County offers cancer insurance through AIG. An application must be filled
out for all new policies or changes to an existing
policy. Employees who currently have Hartford cancer policies may
continue those through payroll deduction, however no
increase in coverage is available for those policies.

Accident Insurance
Accident Insurance is available through Colonial Life. An application is
required for new policies and for changes to existing policies.

Long Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care insurance is offered through UNUM as an employee-paid
benefit and is available via after-tax payroll deduction.
Note: UNUM is offering all employees who have not previously been
declined coverage the opportunity to enroll for group long-term care coverage with no medical underwriting during this open
enrollment period.
