Local Coffee & Tea

Local Coffee & Tea, which opened on Siesta Key in February 2007, specializes in fresh coffee and imported teas. Company owner Michael Duranko rewards employees who ride the bikes to work with gift certificates. He allows customers to bring their own drinking mugs to reduce water and dishwashing costs, and works with suppliers to ensure the environmental quality of all purchased products. One example is Sarasota-based Jalima Coffee, an importer of coffee produced by environmentally sustainable and socially responsible growers in southern Mexico. The company also composts used coffee grounds and spent tea leaves.

UPDATE: Local Coffee and Tea has opened a second location at Marie Selby Botanical Garden, 811 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota.
