|
Want to put the brakes on costly transportation? |
Here's how you can help
- Plan your schedule to limit
the number of trips that must be taken; consider video or
phone conferencing if possible and combine meetings in one
location to avoid back and forth.
- Plan your weekly schedules so as
not to duplicate trips.
- Check for the most fuel efficient
routes to regular places you visit.
- Consider carpooling to shopping
and other destinations with neighbors or friends.
- Car pool with others
whenever possible.
- Think about how you drive.
- Consider using public
transportation
- Give your car a break!
Combine trips whenever possible, share a ride, use mass
transit, walk or bike whenever possible.
- Join
Commuter Services to
save money on your commute to work and to have access to a
free ride in an emergency.
Here's what Sarasota County is doing
- Employee Commute: County employees have access to
a state sponsored Commuter Services program that provides
commute reduction support through ride-share matching,
vanpools, transit information, emergency ride home and
education and incentives.
- Road Maintenance: All pavement markings use
thermoplastic material rather than paint, providing a longer
life span for the retro-reflectivity.
- Called micro-surfacing that requires less
energy and produces little to no hydrocarbon emissions.
- SCAT: Providing public transportation service to
more than two million passengers per year.
- Trail System: In December 2006, the county
adopted the Trail Master Plan for both recreation and
alternative transportation opportunities via walking, biking
and other recreation.
- Sidewalks to Promote Walkability: The county has
established a Regional Sidewalk Network Program.
- This
program provides for sidewalks to schools as well as
connecting to other types of infrastructure such as
connecting recreational areas, parks, increasing access to
public transit, employment and shopping areas.
