Environmental Services
Air and Water Quality

Air and Water Quality administers programs to ensure the highest level of quality of air we breathe in Sarasota County and administers programs to ensure that sites contaminated with petroleum products are cleaned in accordance with state requirements to protect our drinking water.

It also monitors environmental data that is collected from remote sites throughout Sarasota County.

Weather monitoring stationTelemetry System for Natural Resources
Real-time environmental data is collected from remote sites in natural areas in Sarasota County.

Weather data is collected and measured hourly and sent to a central database. As new data is added, a continuous, historic record is kept. Data accuracy is verified on a regular basis.

Sites are located at the Carlton Reserve (CMR), Pinelands Reserve and others. Data is available by request.

Underground Storage Tank Regulations
The Air Quality department administers an underground storage tank program through a separate contract with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Ensuring that sites contaminated with petroleum products are cleaned in accordance with state requirements in order to protect our drinking water supplies and return those sites to their full potential value.

Under this contract, the county conducts annual inspections of facilities with regulated storage tanks and provides technical and fiscal oversight of site assessment and cleanup.
