Christine Robinson was appointed to the Sarasota County
Commission by Gov. Charlie Crist on Nov. 24, 2010 to fill the
vacancy created by Commissioner Shannon Staub’s retirement. She
is currently Chair of the County Commission.
Ms. Robinson attended Niagara University in New York where she
earned her bachelor’s degree. She also holds a law degree from
the University of Miami, and served as an Assistant State
Attorney in the 11th Judicial Circuit from 1999 to 2001 and in
the 12th Judicial Circuit (Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto
counties) from 2001 to 2004 where she became Supervisor of the
South County State Attorney’s Office. She left the State
Attorney’s Office in 2004 to begin a private practice in south
Venice representing small businesses in civil matters and
individuals in family law.
Ms. Robinson served on the Sarasota County Planning Commission
from 2008 to 2010 and as a trustee for Manatee Community
College-State College of Florida Board of Trustees from 2007 to
2010.
She has served as a director on the Sarasota County Bar
Association South County Division and chaired a special task
force on South County Resources and Facilities. Active in
women’s and children’s issues, Ms. Robinson has served on the
Florida Center for Child and Family Development Venice
Advancement Committee and as a volunteer with the Women’s
Resource Center in south county.
Ms. Robinson currently represents the County Commission on the
Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council and the North Port
Business and Economic Development Board. She is the Commission
representative on the Criminal Justice Commission and serves as
the Commission representative to Veterans Affairs.
She serves on the North Port Chamber of Commerce Government
Relations Committee, the Venice Chamber of Commerce Economic
Development and Government Issues Committee, and is a member of
the Venice Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Ms. Robinson
also currently serves on the Sarasota County Economic
Development Corporation (EDC) Business Climate Committee. She
continually focuses on small businesses, economic development,
and budgetary issues.
Ms. Robinson is married to her husband, Eric, and has three
children.
Commissioners are elected at
large for four-year terms. Sarasota County is divided into five
districts and commissioners are designated by the district where
