The Teamsters has been certified by the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) to represent employees. The Teamsters union is comprised of approximately 360 employees in Local 173 who work in skilled trades, water/wastewater operations, fleet, mosquito management, aquatics and Parks and Recreation.

Sarasota County's contract with Local 173 is set to expire Sept. 30. Negotiations will begin soon on the next contract. In the meantime, the current contract allows members to renegotiate wages in year three (October 2010-September 2011). Pay negotiations are currently in progress.
