It has been said that leadership is both an art
and science. The good news is that leadership skills can be
learned and developed. Several programs are offered by Sarasota
County to help leaders at all levels – including aspiring
leaders – enhance their skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- The Enterprise Management Education Series (EMES) focuses on
management skills, such as strategic planning, workforce
planning, and performance management. Participation is
encouraged for all supervisors and managers.
- The Academy of Leadership Excellence (ALE) requires nomination
by an executive director. ALE focuses on the art of leadership:
facilitation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, delegation,
motivation, etc.
- The OD team can support leaders’ efforts directly through
programs such as New Leader Integration, or facilitation of
Vision/Mission/Goals workshops.
