The Amalgamated
Transit Union (ATU) has been certified
by the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission (PERC) to
represent employees This
collective bargaining unit is comprised of approximately 152 employees in Local 1701
who serve as Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) bus operators
and bus attendants.
Sarasota County
government's contract with Local 1701 has expired. In April
2010, after unsuccessful attempts to reach a new agreement, the
Sarasota County Commission imposed a salary freeze, changes to
employee benefits, and changes to the leave program. The matter
is currently on appeal to the 2nd District Court of
Appeals.
