Week of July 6-12,
2009
The
following is a summary of Sarasota County construction, repair
and maintenance projects that are expected to have an impact on
local traffic. This summary includes all
road or lane closures approved by the county engineer.

Transportation.
Fruitville Road, from Coburn
Road to Debrecen Road, Sarasota: Utility relocation work in
advance of the roadway widening project continues on Fruitville
Road from Coburn Road to Debrecen Road. Two lanes of traffic
will be maintained at all times with equipment and personnel
working on the road shoulder areas. Roadway work east of Tatum
Road is expected to begin by late July. This project will
include the construction of four 11-foot-wide travel lanes with
4-foot-wide bicycle lanes and 10-foot- wide permeable paver
sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. In addition, there will
be roadway lighting, medians, concrete curbs and gutters,
stormwater pipes, inlet structures, stormwater ponds and a water
supply pipe.
Laurel Park area, Laurel: Preliminary work will begin
this week to make stormwater and drainage improvements and add
more usable space to Laurel Park and the surrounding area. Work
scheduled this week includes nuisance plant removal and filling,
regrading existing dry retention pond and swales, building a new
dry retention pond and improving the drainage system. The
project is scheduled to take two to three months. No lane
closure for next week or night work is expected this week.
Prestancia Boulevard, Sarasota: Major repairs continue
this week to the area sanitary sewer collection system on
Prestancia Boulevard at the intersection of Calle Serena. One
lane is now open on Prestancia Boulevard.
Bay Street from U.S. 41 to Willow Bend Road, Osprey:
Construction is under way on the U.S. 41 Force Main Phase IV
East Bay Extension project on Bay Street from U.S. 41 to Willow
Bend Road. There will be periodic lane closures and lane shifts
during the project. Motorists traveling in that area should
proceed with caution when construction vehicles are present.
Flagmen will be on hand as needed. The project is targeted for
completion by Jan. 20, 2010.
Venice East Boulevard from Indian Hills Boulevard to Center
Road, Venice: On Monday-Tuesday, July 6-7, tree workers will
be in the medians on Venice East Boulevard from Indian Hills
Boulevard to Center Road. There will be intermittent left lane
closures, and motorists should use caution when traveling
through the area.
Jacaranda Boulevard, Venice: On Wednesday, July 8, crews
will be removing some trees along the median on Jacaranda
Boulevard just west of Center Road. The left lane will be closed
during the work, and motorists should expect delays in the area.
Lalani Boulevard between Bee Ridge Road and Lahaina Drive,
Sarasota: Installation of a water main on Lalani Boulevard
continues this week. Motorists should expect intermittent lane
closures on the northbound or southbound lanes of Lalani
Boulevard while this work proceeds. Barricades, signs or flagmen
will be present as necessary. Access to properties will be
maintained at all times. Work is expected to be completed in
July.
Palmer Boulevard between Debrecen Road and Webber Road,
Sarasota: Installation of a water main on Palmer Boulevard
continues this week. Motorists can expect intermittent lane
closures on the eastbound lane of Palmer Boulevard while this
work is ongoing. Barricades, signs or flagmen will be present as
necessary. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.
Work is expected to be completed in July.
Webber Street, Sarasota: Construction continues this week
for new sidewalks along Webber Street from Tanglewood Drive to
Lockwood Ridge Road. There will be temporary lane closures
during the day. Hours of operation are 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
Monday-Friday. The project is expected to be completed in April
2010.
Wilkinson Road, Sarasota: Construction continues this
week on the installation of stormwater pipe on the corner of
Wilkinson Road and McIntosh Road. Flagmen may be present as
needed to direct traffic through the area. The project is
targeted for completion in July.
Nokomis area: Pipe crews will be installing pipeline this
week on the following roads off Albee Farm Road in the Nokomis
area: Kilpatrick Road, Pecan Street, Maple Street, Pine
Street, Dona Bay Drive, Old Albee Farm Road, Hidden Pines Way,
Spoonbill Drive and Robbins Road. Crews also will be working on
Laurel Road east of Old Albee Farm Road. The work is part of the
Central Nokomis Northeast Water Distribution System project.
Motorists should use caution when traveling in these areas.
Signs, barricades and flagmen will be present as needed to
maintain two-way traffic through the area. Construction of the
entire project is expected to be finished by the end of
December.
Tuttle Avenue, Sarasota (Webber Street to School Avenue):
Sewer mainline and valve pit installation will take place this
week on the following streets: Hammond Place, Sunnyside Street,
Sunnyside Lane, Siesta Drive and Hibiscus Street. Construction
of the vacuum pump station continues, and motorists are urged to
use caution in the 2700 block of Goldenrod Street. Lighted
directional boards or flagmen will be present as necessary. The
work is part of the Phillippi Creek Septic System Replacement
Program Area D project and the Webber Street Neighborhood
Enhancement project. Access to properties and businesses will be
maintained at all times. Phase I of this project is expected to
be completed in November 2009, and Phase II is expected to be
finished in April 2010. |
