Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive
with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they
travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled
in work zones.

Interstate 75: At Main A Canal
near Bee Ridge Road, River Road, Jackson Road, Havana, and
Jacaranda Boulevard: Construction project --- This project
includes full deck replacement / bridge widening and beam / deck
replacement at locations mentioned above. There are no lane
closures expected for the week of Sunday, May 11 through
Saturday, May 17. The contractor is Zep Construction.
U.S. Highway 41: South of Bird Bay Drive to north of State
Road 681 (Venice Connector): Construction project --- One
lane of U.S. 41 in both directions at different points between
S.R. 681 (Venice Connector) and Bird Bay Drive may be closed
intermittently during evening and off-peak daytime hours,
Sunday, May 11 through Saturday, May 17 for installing and
adjusting traffic signals and light poles; cleaning and video
taping underground utility pipes; and miscellaneous road,
sidewalk and median work. Construction activities to be done
without closing lanes include installation of drain pipes on the
east side of U.S. 41 between Dona Bay and Roberts Bay; channel
excavation under the Shakett Creek Bridge; installation of
infrastructure for the new Shakett Creek and Dona Bay bridges;
and installation of light poles, conduits and signal structures
between Palm Avenue and S.R. 681. Three northbound U.S. 41
travel lanes are now open from Bird Bay Drive to the Roberts Bay
Bridge and from Magnolia Avenue to S.R. 681, and three
southbound lanes are open from S.R. 681 to Palm Avenue and from
the Roberts Bay Bridge to Bird Bay Drive. Due to abnormally
heavy currents, the U.S. Coast Guard urges boaters to exercise
extra caution when navigating the channel under the Dona Bay
Bridge, which is within the construction zone.
U.S. Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail): At Sumter Boulevard:
Maintenance permit project --- There will be intermittent east
and westbound lane closures in the medians and turn lanes of the
intersection on Thursday, May 29 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. while
crews construct a right turn lane, widen the roadway and
construct a driveway connection. Motorists are advised to use
caution while in the area.
State Road 789 (John Ringling Boulevard): Between the west
end of the Little Ringling Bridge and Washington Drive North:
Maintenance project --- The westbound right lane of John
Ringling Boulevard will be closed through Thursday, May 29 from
8:30 am each morning until 4:30 pm each afternoon for concrete
sidewalk repairs.
State Road 780 (Fruitville Road): At Richardson Road:
Maintenance permit project --- The westbound left turn lane of
Fruitville Road to northbound Richardson Road will be closed
through Friday, May 16 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. No entrance to
Northbound Richardson Road will be allowed. No thru lanes on
Fruitville Road will be closed. The contractor for Sarasota
County will be placing sewer mains across Richardson Road.
Motorists are advised to use caution in the area.
State Road 780 (Fruitville Road): From Lime Avenue to Briggs
Avenue: Maintenance permit project --- Contractors for the
City of Sarasota will have intermittent eastbound and westbound
lane closures on Fruitville Road through Friday, May 16 from 9
p.m. each night until 6 a.m. each morning to clean and TV sewer
lines and manholes. Motorists are advised to use caution in the
area.
State Road 776 (Englewood Road): From U.S. Highway 41 to
Temple Road: Maintenance permit project --- There will be
intermittent southbound outside lane closures beginning on
Monday, May 12 through Friday, May 16 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
while FPL crews trim trees. Motorists are advised to use caution
and expect delays.
State Road 72: From Vanderipe Slough Bridge to East of Deer
Prairie Bridge: Construction project --- This project
consists of lane widening and the reconstruction of three
bridges and is expected to continue through the summer of 2008.
There will be extended lane closures during construction. Daily
daytime lane closures may be expected for the next several
months for paving operations. Trucks will be entering and
exiting the roadway at active construction areas. A lane has
been closed at the Vanderipe Bridge, Myakka Overflow Bridge for
construction of the new bridges. These lane closures are
controlled with signals and will be a 24 hour a day condition.
The signalized closure has been temporarily removed at Deer
Prairie Slough. Motorists should use caution throughout
the construction site and added caution in the areas where
workers are present. The speed limit has been reduced to 40-45
mph in the work zones. The contractor is Cone and Graham, Inc. |
