Construction
continues on North Cattlemen Road
The contractor will continue with the installation of storm
drain along the west side of North Cattlemen Road along with
excavation of material from the pond site at Brown Lane and
hauling the material north on Cattlemen Road through the project
area. There will be trucks entering and leaving the roadway
frequently. There also will be intermittent lane closures with
flaggers directing traffic for loading and unloading material
from various locations along the project. Please be safe near
work crews.
Work is beginning on the relocation of a sewer forcemain along
the existing travel way. The contractor will be performing night
work from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. for this utility upgrade. The
night operations will take place Tuesday, Nov. 8 through
Thursday, Nov.10. There will be lane closures and flagging
operations during this night work.
Motorists are urged to use caution and watch out for heavy
equipment, trucks and flagging operations when driving through
the construction zone.
Within the Nathan Benderson Park area, no access is provided
north of the pedestrian bridge.
Construction notice

The road project for extending North Cattlemen Road from
Richardson to DeSoto roads includes the construction of four
12-foot-wide travel lanes, 4-foot-wide bicycle lanes and a
10-foot-wide sidewalk along the entire west side of the roadway.
In addition, there will be two-30 foot span bridges, lighting,
medians, concrete curb and gutters, stormwater pipes, inlet
structures, stormwater ponds and water and sewer transmission
pipes to enhance the county’s utility network. The road project
will provide the backbone for the proposed Benderson Park
improvements expected later this year.

The
majority of the funding for the project - nearly $14 million -
will be provided by the federal government through a Local
Agency Program (LAP) agreement with the Florida Department of
Transportation. The agreement was approved in May 2010.
The
remainder of the funding will be provided through a developer
agreement with Benderson Development Co. LLC, which built the
University Town Center on University Parkway. The developer will
be repaid with road impact fee credits.
