On Sept. 8, 2009 the Sarasota County Commission adopted Resolution No. 2009-188.
Neighborhood workshops are required by Sarasota County for comprehensive plan and critical area plan amendments, rezoning, special exceptions and similar land use approvals.

Changes to note:

  • The Petitioner is responsible to arrange for the presence of a county planning staff member at all workshops to provide technical and procedural assistance.

  • An initial fee of $215 for the staff member’s attendance and notification labels has been established by the Board. This fee is payable upon submittal of the neighborhood workshop label request.

  • Within the Urban Service Boundary, if the parcel is not designated “rural” or “semi-rural,” the Petitioner shall mail a notice of the workshop to property owners within 750 feet of the boundary line of the subject property.

  • Listing all the permitted principal uses in the notice is no longer required.

  • The advertisement shall include a link to the county website for more information on the proposal.

  • The workshop is to be conducted in a single group format so that questions and answers can be heard by all participants.

  • A copy of the recorded audio of the meeting must be submitted with the application. (CD preferred)

Planning Services is instituting a preliminary meeting for all potential petitions to better assist applicants. This initial meeting is free of charge and must be scheduled prior to the Pre-Application Conference with the Development Review Committee.
