The Long Range Planning team is a
subsection of Planning Services and acts as a catalyst and
partner for development to improve the natural, social, economic
and building environment of Sarasota County and the region.
- It also acts in partnership
with other entities representing mobility, natural
resources, sustainability, water, building, health,
recreation, schools, sheriff, emergency services, legal,
housing, transit, economic development, etc.
- Within the Long Range
Planning team, there is a flexible group of planners who
carry the community vision of the
Comprehensive Plan through
the development, assessment, amendment and implementation.
Other comprehensive planning
related issues, such as impact fee, legislative review and
intergovernmental coordination, fall under the purview of the
comprehensive planning activity. Project teams are varied and
change with the project and process.
The Current Planning Section is
responsible for the review and processing of Rezoning Petitions,
Special Exceptions, Developments of Regional Impact (DRI),
Developments of Critical Concern (DOCC) and the review of Small
Area Comprehensive Plan Amendments when associated with a
Rezoning Petition.
- In addition, there are the
responsibilities of handling changes to DRIs, processing
DOCCs, assisting with amendments to the Zoning Ordinance,
and reviewing Small Area Comprehensive Plan Amendments.
