| Neighborhood Planning targets
areas within Sarasota County for public infrastructure
improvements. Based on income, education, health, safety and
code violations, a neighborhood may be selected to partner with
county staff to create a neighborhood improvement plan.
County staff first listens to the
neighborhood's top concerns and then creates a strategy to
address them by identifying and evaluating the neighborhood's
strength and weaknesses. To develop the plan residents, business
owners and staff members from various agencies discuss each
issue in detail during a series of meetings.
Staff strives to teach neighborhoods how to
apply for grants and identify neighborhood projects that merit
investment of county funds. The final document includes a
funding and implementation strategy.
