Twin Lakes Park History
In 1970, the Twin Lakes Park complex was built, owned and operated by the Kansas City Royals baseball organization. The Royals first used the facility as an academy for young, talented baseball players. Later, this initial concept was abandoned in favor of a minor league training facility. Sarasota County purchased the complex in 1986. Since that time, the Royals, Mets, Twins, Indians, Reds, Dodgers and Orioles, as well as foreign teams from Japan and Korea, have all trained here. In March of 1987, the Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Department moved its administrative operations to Twin Lakes Park. In 2005, a new building and the renovated original building became Florida’s fifth building to earn the Gold-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The designation recognizes buildings and grounds that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. The two buildings include administrative operations for Sarasota County Community Services Business Center.
