Siesta Beach Improvements
Following two years of public input from stakeholders,
residents, business owners and others, the Sarasota
County
Commission approved the Siesta Beach Concept Plan May 12, 2009.
Several goals and objectives were outlined by the community and
staff throughout the park planning process for Siesta Beach.
These were to
enhance landscaping to improve the overall
appearance of our world class beach, improve the appearance of
and provide additional parking areas, provide for safe
pedestrian connections/access, utilize Low Impact Design (LID)
and sustainable design techniques and better utilization of
space for improved access and use of recreational amenities. The
county is now under contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates,
Inc. to initiate design, engineering and permitting for the
Siesta Beach improvements.
PROJECT UPDATE:
Parks and Recreation and Public Works staff
hosted a public open house on Thursday, March 24 to share the
preliminary design plan for the Siesta Public Beach Park
Improvements. Since that time, staff has continued to work with
stakeholders, the design team and neighbors to further refine
the plans. The most recent update on the design plan and next
steps was shared with the County Commission on September 14,
2011.
