Sarasota County is reviewing a number of potential properties, as well as land that could be used to construct a Community Corrections Center.  A corrections center is an important component of a criminal justice system. 

A Community Corrections Center offers many benefits. It can:

• Provide programs to lower the incidence of repeat offenders.
   

• Increase public safety and reduce costs by helping offenders obtain the social and job skill needs they need to successfully work and live when they return to society after serving their sentences.
   

• Offer programs that include substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, educational opportunities, job training and juvenile programs, as well as family and life skills training.

Sarasota County’s planning process for a Community Corrections Center is based on best community corrections center practices. An experienced community corrections consultant is guiding the process of site review and public outreach. Public input will be invited in meetings and workshops, which are tentatively scheduled for later this year. Site review isn’t expected to be completed until the end of the year.
