The
Sarasota County Government Tobacco-Free Campus Initiative begins May 28,
2010.
In December 2009 the County Commission approved the initiative that
designates county-owned properties as tobacco-free inside and outside;
inclusive of parking lots, green areas, walkways and boundaries of each
location up to the sidewalk and/or road.
This initiative is in agreement with the Center for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) and both the local Sarasota Health Department and the
Florida Department of Health whose goals are to empower and mobilize
communities to reduce tobacco-related deaths, diseases and disabilities.
Smoking cessation resources will continue to be available to all
employees and dependants >18 years of age who are covered under one of
the medical plans.
